Village Overview

The Montgomery Lifestyle: Fox River Trails & Small-Town Scale

Montgomery was incorporated on February 17, 1858, and sits on both sides of the Fox River in southern Kane County and northern Kendall County. For most of the twentieth century it grew slowly, and then it grew fast: the village population rose 237 percent between 2000 and 2010, one of the fastest rates among Illinois municipalities in that decade.[2]

The river is the center of daily life. The Fox River Trail runs for miles along the water, and South Broadway Park is an easy starting point for walking, biking, fishing, and paddling. Montgomery Fest, held each summer on the riverbank, adds a carp fishing race, live music, and craft beer. Village Hall is at 200 North River Street.

Montgomery is also a neighbor to bigger names. Illinois Route 31 leads northeast to the center of Aurora and southwest to Oswego, Illinois Route 25 runs along the east side of the river, and U.S. Route 30 passes through the village toward Plainfield and Sugar Grove. For buyers, that means a quieter village feel with quick access to Aurora's shopping, jobs, and train station.

Growth was rapid after 2000, so a large share of the housing stock is newer. Ask about HOA dues, special assessments, and builder warranties when you compare newer subdivisions.
